USPA NEWS - The Spanish Minister of Health, Salvador Illa, announced this Friday that from next Monday all of Spain will be at least in phase 1 of the de-escalation. Illa pointed out that 53% of the population will be in this phase and the rest of Spain, 47%, in phase 2.
The minister sent a message of "sincere congratulations to all the regions for the great work done" and assured that "we are not only going out but we are making it stronger." In addition, he recalled that the assessment of the phase step is made based on the requests received, which are assessed based on the requests made and agreed through bilateral meetings.
The head of Health in the Spanish Government stressed that "we have opted for the path of prudence, caution and security." And he insisted that "we have always been guided by a maxim: that the passage be safe."
Since Monday, fourteen of the seventeen Spanish regions, in addition to the autonomous cities of Ceuta and Melilla - on the North African coast - will enter phase 2, which allows greater freedom of movement, as well as greater commercial activity. Travel between provinces and mass gatherings are not allowed yet, and the use of a mask is required both indoors and outdoors, as long as it is not possible to maintain the two-meter safety distance with other people.
But the evolution of the pandemic in Spain allows to recover freedoms gradually. In Spain, to date, a total of 234,824 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported by PCR - of which 11,462 are in the ICU - and 28,628 have died.
