As we celebrate this Monday, May 09, Europe Day in this European Year specially dedicated to youth, the Regions of France, the Grand Est Region and the European Committee of the Regions have invited the European Parliament and the Council to Strasbourg Greater East region more than 200 young high school students, apprentices and/or members of regional youth parliaments to raise their awareness of European issues and listen to their demands on the place they wish to occupy in the Europe of tomorrow. This delegation was first able to attend the presentation of the work of the Conference on the Future of Europe in the presence of the Presidency of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron and the Presidents of the European institutions. At the invitation of the President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, they were then able to discuss with the President, the French Secretary of State for European Affairs, Clément Beaune, the President of the Grand Est Region, Jean Rottner, the President of the European Committee of the Regions, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, and the whole team of the series "Parliament" whose season 2 was launched on the same day. The debates revolved around the engagement of young people in the European public sphere through culture and cinema.----------------------------------------------------------------
The day ended with the organization at the Grand Est Regional Council of the first dialogue on the participation of young people in public life and democratic debate at local, regional, national and European level, in the presence of the President of the Region. , Jean Rottner, the President of the European Committee of the Regions, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, the President of the European Youth Forum, Silja Markkula, and the First Quaestor of the European Parliament, Anne Sander. After listening to the proposals of five young people from different Member States, including Ukraine, the debate focused on how to strengthen their participation in public life and decision-making processes.
Carole Delga, President of the Regions of France: "I am delighted with the mobilization of the youth of all the French Regions, from Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur to Normandy, from Grand Est to Brittany, from Corsica to the Center -Val de Loire, via Ile-de-France, to be a source of proposals at this pivotal moment in European construction. While our national institutions are in the process of renewal and the voice of the youth was hardly expressed at the time of the elections, I am proud that our young people seized this opportunity to make their voices heard and to make our democracies more effective and closer to the expectations of our fellow citizens."---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jean Rottner, President of the Grand Est Region "I am happy to be able to welcome to Strasbourg, European capital, young people from all over France and from several Member States. They constitute our future and that of the Union, more than ever - given the environmental, technological, social and human challenges that we have to meet - it is essential that they can express themselves and be stakeholders in the future of Europe".
Apostolos Tzitzikostas President of the European Committee of the Regions: “With the Grand Est Region and Regions of France, we celebrated this Europe Day 2022 – a year dedicated to youth – with a dialogue between young people and local and European elected representatives. Youth is a political priority for the Committee of the Regions, whether in terms of access to high quality education, protection of the environment, access to the labor market, or participation in democratic life. We work every day to bring Europe closer to citizens, especially new generations, and build their confidence by showing Europe's added value on the ground." Source: Regions of France
